In 2021, I was lucky enough to move to Poland for a few months (find out why- here). I had an amazing time! So much so, that I’ve decided to dedicate a post entirely to what I loved about Poland:
- The houses are all so diffrent and intresting to look at! I know this is such a random point but if you’ve ever been, you’ll know what I mean. Keep an eye out if you go!
- The people are very nice! There’s a stereotype that Polish people are mean or don’t smile, but I didn’t find this to be the case at all. Almost everytime I went out in the morning for a walk someone would talk to me.
- The Perogi is so tasty! Over my entire stay in Poland, I had a lot of diffrent type of Perogi, and all of them were very delicious. If I had to pick a favourite flavor, I’d say either spinach and cheese or Perogi with blueberries!
- Nature in Poland is so beaitiful! There’s so many forests and scenic fields with idle farms sitting in the middle. There’s lots of lakes and water to swim in, and I definetly reccomend taking a kayak on one!

- It’s flat!!! If like me, you hate hills then you will instantly love Poland. There are not many hills unless you go towards the borders more. This is such an advantage if you love to bike and is esecially good for when it gets hot in the summer.
- Biking is encouraged everywhere. I loved biking through the neighbourhoods and too the shops, especially in the summer time. There were lots of bike lanes and it was so flat, which made it nicer and more leisurly.
- There’s ice cream everywhere! The one Polish word I know off by heart is Lody, which is ice cream! They sell it everywhere and it’s so tasty. One of the most famous ice creams they have is called swiderki, which is a really tall, swirled ice cream. The most common flavours are chocolate, vanila and mixed but there were other flavours avalible too.

Things I Didn’t Understand:
- There were so many drunk people just sleeping in the open. In the UK you don’t really see this too often, but in Poland I would see someone drunk, sleeping outside like in the park almost every month at least!
- Zurek Soup is soup inside a hollowed out bread. I got to make my own and spent ages hollowing out the middle for the soup, after I finished the soup I was shocked to discover that you don’t eat the bread afterwards?! It looks like it would taste the nicest because the soup would’ve been absorbed by it. I just didn’t understand why not just eat it in a bowl if you chuck the bread away after?

- I walked past some weddings at churches during living there and sometimes it was so hard to tell who the bride was as every girl was wearing white! In the UK, that is frowned upon and you could get chucked out if you ever did that at someone elses wedding, which was why it was such a shock.
- Mosquitos are everywhere in summer. I got bit an ungodly amount of times which was so itchy and horrible. I didn’t know that mosquitos are extremly common in Poland, so if you go in summer – take some bug spray!
Have you ever been to Poland? What did you like? Was there anything that surprised you?
I haven’t been to Poland. But reading your post makes me want to travel to Poland one day. I hope this pandemic will end soon. Hehehe. Thank you for sharing.
Poland sounds amazing! I’m not a fan of hills either, and a bonus that they sell lots of ice creams 😍
I’ve never been to Poland but it looks like a really cool place to visit! Thank you for sharing x
