things to know before visiting Pebble Beach

What is Pebble Beach famous for? Pebble Beach, located in the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, is famous for its stunning natural beauty and its world-class golf course. The beach itself is known for its unique pebbly shoreline, which eroded coral and limestone form. This creates a picturesque contrast against the turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.

However, the main attraction at Pebble Beach is its golf course, which is considered one of the most scenic and challenging courses in the world. Designed by renowned architects Pete and Perry Dye, it boasts spectacular ocean views and meticulously manicured greens. The course has hosted many international tournaments, including the Barbados Open and the World Cup Golf Championship.

In addition to golf, Pebble Beach is also popular for snorkelling and swimming, as well as its serene atmosphere and stunning sunsets. The beach is also home to the famous horses who are taken to the beach almost every morning – and it’s a must-do in Barbados!

One of the best things to know about Pebble Beach before visiting is that Pebble Beach is most famous for its beautiful racehorses, which come down to the beach almost every morning for a wash and exercise!

Barbados has a long horse racing history, dating back to as early as the 19th century. The island is renowned for its top-quality racehorses, and its racetracks have hosted many prestigious international events.

Each morning, the horses start arriving from 5:30 am till around 8 am, and tourists can go into the water with them to stroke them and take beautiful photos. Just remember not to walk around the back of the horses because they might kick and injure you!

The horses in Barbados are well-cared for and highly trained by experienced handlers – who love to flirt with girls 😉 They may ask for a donation, but this is up to you, and some of the boys don’t ask – instead, they might just want your Instagram handle!

The racecourse from Pebbles Beach Barbados is the famous Garrison Savannah, located in St. Michael, Barbados. It is just a 10-minute drive from Pebbles Beach and is easily accessible by car or public transportation.

Garrison Savannah is the only racetrack on the island and is known as the “Home of Horse Racing” in Barbados. It was established in the 1800s and has a rich history of hosting top-class racing events.

The track is a left-handed, oval-shaped course that is roughly 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles) in distance. It is built on a coral base, giving it a unique and challenging terrain for horses to navigate. The track’s surface is well-maintained and has a reputation for being one of the best surfaces for horse racing in the Caribbean.

The Garrison Savannah is also home to the Barbados Turf Club, an organization that oversees all horse racing activities on the island. They are responsible for organizing and regulating races, as well as promoting and developing the sport in Barbados.

One of the most popular restaurants on Pebble Beach is the Pebbles Beach Bar, which is located right on the beach. It offers a casual beachfront dining experience with amazing views of the Caribbean Sea. The menu features a variety of seafood dishes, as well as local Barbadian cuisine and refreshing cocktails.

Another nearby dining option is Brown Sugar Restaurant, located within walking distance from Pebble Beach. It offers a more upscale dining experience with a focus on traditional Bajan cuisine, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

For a more intimate and romantic setting, visitors can check out Tapas Restaurant, also located near Pebble Beach. It offers a selection of tapas-style dishes in a cosy, lantern-lit courtyard.

In terms of bars, besides Pebbles Beach Bar, there are a few options nearby. The Boatyard Beach Bar and Billy’s Beach Bar are both within walking distance from Pebble Beach and offer a laid-back beach vibe with drinks, music, and sometimes live entertainment.

My favourite place to go for food or a smoothie is Blush Cafe – just a 15-minute walk from Pebble Beach. It is very affordable and one of the prettiest cafes I’ve ever been to!

5. Can I swim at Pebble Beach?

things to know before visiting Pebble Beach

Yes, you can swim at Pebble Beach in Barbados. However, there are some important things to keep in mind before jumping into the water.

Firstly, it is important to note that Pebble Beach is a nesting area for endangered sea turtles. Therefore, swimming is not allowed in certain areas to protect the turtles and their nests. These areas are marked off with signs, and it is important to respect these restrictions to ensure the safety and conservation of the turtles.

Additionally, there can be strong currents and rough waves at Pebble Beach, so it is recommended to only swim in the designated swimming areas that are monitored by lifeguards. These areas will also have flags to indicate the current water conditions. It is important to pay attention to these flags and not swim in areas where the red flag is flying, as these indicate dangerous conditions.

It is also important to note that there are no facilities or amenities at Pebble Beach, so visitors should bring their own towels and supplies for a comfortable beach day. There is a shower area for rinsing off after swimming, but it is not recommended to leave valuables unattended at the beach.

Overall, with proper precautions and respect for the nesting sea turtles, Pebble Beach is a beautiful and safe place to swim in Barbados.
