Why visit Malaga? Simply because Malaga has so much to offer! There are plenty of great places to eat and amazing things to do, and it’s rich with history. Malaga is close to and also even has some of the best beaches in Spain, making it a great place to visit if you’re someone who loves the beach. If you want to visit somewhere that will have you exploring for days – then Malaga is the place to visit!
Best restaurants in Malaga:
What are the best restaurants in Malaga? There are so many to choose from, so I’ve narrowed it down for you in this list:
- La Barra De Zappa – This small family-owned business serves some of the best traditional Spanish food and tapas.
- Los Marangos Restaurant – If you want to visit a restaurant with delicious food and a great atmosphere, you need to go here! It’s just a short walk from Museo Picasso.
- Buenavista Gastrobar & Tapas – This warm pub serves amazing sharing plates and is a fantastic place for socialising with others. It’s perfect for all types of tourists!
The 10 Best Things To Do in Malaga:
1. Alcazaba
Alcazaba is a very impressive palatial fortress located on the hill overlooking Malaga. There are so many unique rooms and items to look at from the past. It’s one of the best preserved Alczaba’s in Spain. It’s a great place to explore for a few hours, and there are places to eat inside the Alcazaba. Additionally, also one of the best places to visit if you want some amazing photos.
Tickets: 3,50€ for regular and 1,50€ for reduced entrance (students, seniors over 65 years old, retired, disabled and unemployed). Tickets must be bought at the entrance.
2. Malaga Cathedral
Malaga Cathedral is very beautifully designed and is full of history! It was constructed between 1528 and 1782 and has a renaissance-inspired interior. Inside, there are also lots of religious artefacts to admire and learn about.

3. Castillo de Gibralfaro
Castillo de Gibralfaro offers amazing viewpoints of the whole of Malaga! The castle was built in 929 AD and is famous for its three-month siege by Catholic monarchs. Today, you can walk along the turrets, and there is a small little museum where you can learn about the history in. It’s one of the best things to do in Malaga!
Tickets: 3,50€ for regular and 1,50€ for reduced entrance (students, seniors over 65 years old, retired, disabled and unemployed). Tickets must be bought at the entrance.
4. Museo Picasso Malaga
Museo Picasso Malaga is a must-visit if you love art and Picasso in particular, as he was born in Malaga. Here you can discover lots of art created by Picasso, as over 285 paintings were donated by his family. Furthermore, there are often lots of events and exhibitions on, so check online in advance if you want to know more.
Tickets: 9€ for regular and 7€ for a reduced ticket (students and visitors over 65). They can be bought online or in person, but it’s recommended to book in advance.
5. Hike Caminito del Rey
Caminito del Rey is just a short train ride away from Malaga by train or by bus. It used to be known as the most dangerous path in the world, but it’s now been restored and made very safe. Tickets: €10 for general admission and €18 for a guided tour.
6. Teatro Romano de Málaga
Teatro Romano de Málaga is spectacular! It’s located right at the bottom of Alcazaba and looks so amazing. There is a little museum that you can go into and learn about the Roman relics that were found there. You can also sit on the steps, which are a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere for a few hours. It’s one of the best things to do in Malaga if you love history and are travelling on a budget.
Tickets: Free admission.
7. Take a Boat Ride
Malaga has a stunning port, and the water is so clear, so taking a boat ride to admire the waters and the views are a great way to relax and unwind for a few hours. There are different companies along the port that offer different types of rides, so why not walk along and see which would suit you?
Tickets: Depends on the type of ride, but around €12
8. Museo de Malaga
Museo de Malaga is a must-visit if you want to learn more about the history and culture of Malaga! There are over 2,000 pieces in the Fine Arts collection and over 15,000 in the Archeology collection, making it the 5th biggest museum in the whole of Spain! There is even a restaurant here where you can enjoy some traditional Spanish food.
Tickets: Free for EU Citizens and €1.50 for other nationalities.
9. Centre Pompidou Malaga
You won’t be able to miss this building! Centre Pompidou Malaga is a modern art museum located right next to the port. There are lots of different things to see here, and there are often new exhibitions to help spark your creativity and imagination. It’s one of the best things to do in Malaga with kids.

10. La Calle Larios
La Calle Larios is the main shopping street in Malaga, so you will probably end up here at least once during your trip! There are plenty of restaurants to fit any type of budget or taste along La Calle Larios, as well as lots of shops, such as clothing shops and souvenir shops.
