In the morning, the first stop should be the Freedom Square. Here you can appreciate a beautiful monument dedicated to the War of Independence. There is also a gorgeous fountain whose water shoots in different directions and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – an iconic symbol of the city.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a stunning Orthodox church located in the heart of Tallinn. It was built in the late 19th century in honour of the Russian Emperor Alexander II and is considered one of the most essential Orthodox monuments in the city. The cathedral stands at a height of 80 meters and features a grand bell tower and five domes – known as onion domes. It is a must-see in Tallinn!

From here, you should then take a look at Tallitor’s Tower, also known as Kiek in de Kök, which is just a short walk across the road. Tallitor’s Tower tower dates back to the 13th century and was originally part of a larger fortress complex. The tower stands at a height of 50 metres and is one of the oldest surviving medieval structures in Estonia. It is also a great place to take some photos and look out at the city.

After admiring the gorgeous views of Tallinn, you can take a stroll down to the Old Town and explore the narrow cobblestone streets lined with beautiful old houses. Make sure to visit Town Hall Square where you can spot the famous Toompea Castle and St. Olaf’s Church.

By now, you’ll probably be quite hungry, so I recommend getting something to eat from the Old Town – if you have the money for it. If not, then there are lots of other affordable options to choose from if you walk a little bit outside of it.

24 Hours in Tallinn – Afternoon

After filling up on lunch, it’s a good idea to visit the Kadriorg Park and the Presidential Palace. The park is a must-see destination for nature lovers, and its lovely gardens, ponds, and sculptures make it an ideal place to spend some time relaxing – but it is a little out of the way, so remember that!

If you’d prefer to fill the afternoon up with getting to know Estonian culture and history even more, then head to the Estonian Open Air Museum, which displays various traditional objects and buildings that represent the life and culture of the past centuries. Here, you can also experience a traditional Estonian sauna and take a boat ride on the lake.

You could even take a Medieval Walking Tour around Tallinn if you’re visiting on a lovely sunny spring or summer day. This tour around Tallinn is the perfect way to relax and get to know the historical city in much more detail and depth – as well as give you an excellent opportunity to meet other tourists!

Perhaps instead of shopping, you’re in the mood for something a bit more laid back and scenic – if that’s the case, then I recommend heading to T1 Mall of Tallinn. In case you’re not aware, T1 Mall of Tallinn has a giant wheel located on the top of the shopping centre! It’s very affordable and a fantastic way to get amazing views of Tallinn whilst also being a great location to get some dinner and do some other activities. Additionally, T1 Mall of Tallinn is located near to Kadriorg Park, making it a great way to end your day in Tallinn.
